The maceration

Nine months in the dark.

Cendre is macerated outside Grasse in a sealed amber-glass vat kept away from light. The saffron goes in first. The oud is added by hand, a gram at a time, until the concentrate turns from separate materials into one composition. Then it rests. By the time Batch VII is decanted, the formula has already lived through a season.

The arc

The first four hours.

Cendre opens with saffron and bergamot, turns towards oud and labdanum by the half-hour, then settles into amber resin and ambrette. Move the timeline to follow how the emphasis changes on skin.

Wearing and care

Let the first spray finish.

At extrait concentration, restraint gives the composition room to move. Start close to skin, wait for the saffron to settle, and decide from the heart rather than the opening.

On skin

Begin with one spray at the sternum or inside the elbow. Give the opening thirty minutes before adding more.

On fabric

Apply from a distance to a hidden area first. Natural fibres hold the amber base longer than skin.

At rest

Store upright, away from direct sun and temperature changes. The amber glass protects the concentrate, not from heat.
